CHARLOTTE -- The works of an artist dubbed America's Van Gogh were on display Friday in Charlotte.

Stefan Duncan used painting as a form of therapy as he recovered from serious injuries sustained in a car accident several years ago. Today, he's considered one of the most prolific artists in the world, selling over 500 original paintings over the last three years.

"When you are in the city, we never touch the Earth anymore; we're always walking on concrete. We never see the stars because of the streetlights, so my mission is to break through this barrier, grab a piece of nature, bring it in and unveil the divine presence that's there,” Duncan said. “What better way to remind people of that then on their living room walls."

Thirty of Duncan's original paintings are on display at Sophia's Gallery on East Boulevard.

VStefan Duncan is an internationally known artist that lives in Mineral Springs, North Carolina. He  created the style called "Squiggleism" and is considered one of the most prolific artists of the world. His mission is to unveil the Divine's Presence in nature of which he calls his "quest for the Sacred Fire" and place his works in the heart of where people live - in their homes.

Testimonial

"I saw Duncan's paintings several weeks ago in person. Seeing his paintings in photos is like looking at them through sunglasses. When they are in front of you they blaze! They take your breath away. When you see a Duncan painting you are overcome with the feeling of awe. It's like being Moses and standing before the burning bush. What is the coolest is, he is during my lifetime and I feel I have experienced history and immortal beauty in the making" Charlene Roberts, Charlotte, N.C.  July 15, 2005.
